RUDYARD -- Irene E. Jackson, 90, died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 1999, at a Chester care center of natural causes.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Sunday at the Calvary Evangelical Church in Rudyard. Burial will follow in the Grace Church Cemetery north of Rudyard.
Jackson was born Jan. 24, 1909, at Hillsboro, Ore., to Albert and Elizabeth (Haas) Lincoln. She moved with her family to Montana at the age of three. They homesteaded in the Goldstone community 18 miles north of Rudyard. She attended the Oreana Country School, then finished her education in Rudyard, graduating from high school in 1927. She attended college at Dillon Normal School for a year.
On July 25, 1928, she married Kenneth W. Jackson in Havre. The couple farmed and ranched north of Rudyard in the years that followed. He died in 1958. She moved into Rudyard and lived there from that time on.
She was a longtime member of the Calvary Evangelical Church in Rudyard. Over the years she served as the church pianist, as secretary-treasurer and as Sunday School teacher and superintendent. She enjoyed the Bible and memorized many scriptures. She was a charter member and past secretary-treasurer of the Sage Hens Home Demonstration Club. She served as the clerk of the school board for the Mariner School north of Hingham for many years. Her hobbies included music, especially playing the piano, singing, playing the omnichord, horses and collecting horse figurines. In her high school and college years she enjoyed playing basketball and remained a fan of the Denver Nuggets throughout her life. Other interests included vegetable gardening, canning, knitting, building puzzles, playing Chinese checkers, reading and spending time with her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three brothers, Edgar, Ervin and Donald Lincoln, a grandson, Jerry Cartwright and two great-grandchildren, Andrea Rice and Sharyl Wodrich.
Survivors include a daughter, Dorla Cartwright of Monarch; a son, Richard Jackson of Rudyard; sisters, Gladys Torgerson of Seattle, Wash. and Verda Warner of Great Falls; 12 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorials are suggested to the Calvary Church or to the donor's choice.
Arrangements are by Rockman Funeral Chapel of Chester.
