Wolf Point senior Dustyn Azure has signed on to wrestle with the Montana State-Northern Lights, announced coach David Ray.
Hes a sharp kid. His attitude is so positive, Ray said. Mentally on the mat, he likes to compete. He believes in himself.
Azure claimed the Montana Class B-C championship at 152 pounds his senior season, holding a 41-1 record that included 29 pins. As a junior he placed fourth at state with a 38-5 record with 28 pins, and was sixth as a sophomore going 27-2 with 16 pins. As a freshman, Azure broke his arm at divisionals, so could not compete at state. But he still held a 23-8 record with 11 pins.
Coming from a smaller school, his talent is still untouched, Ray said. Hes going to be a great asset.
Ray said Azure will fill a slot at 149 or 157 pounds, but will likely redshirt his freshman season.
Hes got room to grow, Ray said.
Azures wrestling style will adapt well to collegiate competition.
Hes tough mentally, and thats what weve got to have, Ray said. Hes quick, good on his feet Hes flexible and is going to be fun to watch.
Holding a 3.0 grade point average, Azure will study drafting at Northern. He is the son of Howard and Debra Azure.
Hes the fourth Montana kid weve signed from Eureka to Wolf Point, Ray said. Its so great to get these Montana kids, good wrestlers, good people, good citizens. He will be a good role model.
