The Chinook track team heads to Glasgow this weekend for the District 2B track meet. It is a track that the Sugarbeeters are familiar with after running on the track several times already this year. The top five finishers in each event will move on to the divisional meet.
Chinook coach Don Olsen said his team is excited about going to the tournament. Olsen said it looks to be a great meet with some of the best athletes competing at the meet.
On the boys side Mason Roseberry has been strong all year and placed in many different meets. Olsen said he will also be looking for good thing from Mike Maddox, Jimmy Steyee, and Justin Brown. These will be the ones to lead.
Im looking for good things from those kids, Olsen said.
For the girls of Chinook Lindsey Buhmann, Erin Acra, and Caroline Moores are all going to be instrumental for the success of the team. The girls team though will be with out Maren Olsen and Katie Malsam, who both performed well this season and are out with injuries.
There is also some very stiff competition on the girls side with Malta being the defending state champions. Plentywood has a strong girls team as well. For the boys they will be up against Wolf Point, and Malta, who has a lot of depth and Poplar has good distance runner. Olsen said it should be just a fun meet.
Getting people qualified for the divisional meet it the goal and Olsen said they have been improving every week. Olsen said he hopes some of the athletes can get their personal bests and he said he does not want them to walk out hanging their heads.
We need to do the best we can and get on to the next one, Olsen said.
