To many graduating seniors at Havre High School it must have seemed little more than a distant illusion a time only to be talked about that would never actually arrive. But alas, it has and tonights the night.
As almost 200 mortarboard caps ascend into the air at Havre High School graduation ceremonies Tuesday, the staff and management of the Havre Daily News wishes to extend our warmest and most heartfelt congratulations to all the 1999 graduates.
We also want to extend our heartfelt congratulations to all of the parents, teachers, and administrators who gave so much of themselves in support of the class of 1999. Without your help and selfless sacrifice the job of education our communitys youth would be an impossible task.
To our youth, this portion of the long hard road has finally ended you made it. By doing so, you have demonstrated intelligence, dedication, and initiative. It is the kind of intelligence, dedication, and initiative necessary to meet the challenges of the future.
And challenges there will be. There will be intellectual challenges as you discover education doesnt cease at the schoolhouse door. It continues throughout life in college and in the workplace. Knowledge is an ongoing process that demands, to survive, you must learn.
You have also shown dedication the willingness to stick it out, be committed, and never say quit. It is a quality that is the foundation of all future success.
Many of you have learned this quality in the field of athletics, or while learning to play a musical instrument. Others have discovered it while learning Shakespeare for a school play, or in the midst of a debate at a state speech meet. Still others of you, through involvement in student government, or simply by going the extra mile to get an A instead of settling for a B.
You have also demonstrated initiative the desire to be better, to do more, and to try what you previously had never tried.
It is a quality that only the brave, the curious, and the strong possess. It is a quality that has moved mankind from the cave to the outer reaches of space and the inner depths of earths oceans. It is the quality that creates, that moves us forward and tells us there is no limit to what can be accomplished.
We at the Havre Daily News know the class of 1999 has these qualities in abundance. As you cross the stage tonight to get your diplomas, we know the lessons youve learned at Havre High School will serve you, and us, well. May you never forget your dreams and the sense of accomplishment you so richly deserve.
As we place the future into your capable hands, remember the faith we have in you and pride we take in your achievement.
Congratulations class of 1999 youve got the right stuff.
