GUST ZABEL

ALBANY, Ore. Gust H. Zabel, 91, a former Gildford farmer, died Wednesday, July 21, 1999, at a Timberview, Ore. care center.

A private family service will be held at a later date.

Zabel was born in Balfour, N.D. He and his family later homesteaded near Havre.

On Dec. 24, 1937, he married Estelle R. Savage Seel. The couple farmed in Gildford and Marsing, Idaho.

In 1948, the couple moved to Lebanon, Ore., where he was employed for U.S. Plywood from 1950 to 1972. After his retirement the couple spent winters in Mesa, Ariz., and summers in Lebanon. They moved to Albany 12 years ago, living in several retirement communities.

Zabel was a member of Albany First United Methodist Church. He enjoyed repairing and painting cars, building homes, church activities, his cat and listening to music.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Terry of Beaverton, Ore.; a step-son, Gordon Johnson of Fresno, Calif.; sisters, Helen Moody of Seattle, Wash., and Clara Wood of Chester; and six grandchildren.
