Eighteen people pleaded guilty to offenses or were sentenced for their offenses recently in 12th Judicial District Court in Havre.
Donald Robert Wood, 34, Havre, was sentenced to seven years in Montana State Prison on a burglary charge and five years, to run concurrently, on a theft offense. Wood also was given a 5-year sentence to run consecutively for being designated a persistent felon. Conditions of his parole will require him to under take appropriate mental health services, pay restitution, and comply with conditions set down in his presentence investigation.
Wood pleaded guilty in June to burglary and theft for an incident at a business in the 400 block of Second Street on Dec. 19, 1998.
Randy Lee Cloninger, 22, Havre, pleaded guilty in June to three counts of burglary stemming from break-ins to businesses in Hingham and Inverness on May 19, 1998, and North Havre on Jan. 18, 1999. The judge ordered a presentence investigation and set sentencing for 9 a.m. Aug. 27. The maximum sentence for each offense is 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $50,000.
Trevor Jay Standinghorn, 19, Havre, was sentenced to 30 days in jail for a second offense partner assault offense. He was given a 2-year-deferred imposition of sentence on a charge that he assaulted a peace officer. As one of the conditions of his release, Standinghorn must earn his GED by Jan. 1, 2001.
Standinghorn pleaded guilty earlier to partner assault and assaulting a peace officer. The incidents occurred on Feb. 27 in the 300 block of Sixth Street.
William Kenneth Lohman, 18, Havre, was given a 3-year deferred imposition of sentence for burglary. He must pay restitution, surcharges and fees. Lohman was 17 when he pleaded guilty in June to two counts of burglary, one a Havre business on Feb. 4 and the other a Fort Benton golf course on Feb. 28, 1999.
Tom Edward Deady, 42, Havre, was sentenced to six years in Montana State Prison in Deer Lodge with two years suspended. Deady must register as a level two sex offender, comply with conditions set down in a presentence investigation, and a sex offender program.
Deady pleaded guilty April 5 to sexual assault for an incident involving a 13-year-old boy at Beaver Creek Park in August 1998.
Ryan Kelly Schafer, 21, Havre, was given an 18-month deferred imposition of sentence and ordered to comply with his presentence investigations conditions of release. He also must pay supervisory fees and surcharges.
Schafer pleaded guilty earlier to criminal mischief that resulted from driving a stolen car into the old Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd on Dec. 12, 1999.
Rick Valdez, 22, Havre, was given a two-year deferred imposition of sentence and credit for 12 days already served in jail. The remainder of his mandatory 30-day sentence was suspended.
Valdez pleaded guilty in June to third offense family member assault for an incident in the 600 block of Fifth Avenue on Feb. 28.
Robert W. Burdeau Jr., 20, Browning, pleaded guilty to possession of alcohol and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle for an incident in Hill County Jan. 21, 1999. He was fined $50 and told to seek treatment on the alcohol charge. He was fined $100 and given a six-month deferred imposition of sentence on the vehicle charge. He also was ordered to remain law-abiding.
Jacob Gary Spang, 18, Havre, pleaded guilty in July to misdemeanor family member or partner assault for an incident at a Havre residence on Jan. 12. Spang was given a six-month deferred imposition of sentence and credit for 13 days served. He was fined $100 and ordered to refrain from alcohol, complete 25 hours of anger management, and remain law-abiding.
Robert J. Vukasin, 34, Havre, pleaded guilty in July to two counts of burglary involving cabins at Beaver Creek Park and Fresno Reservoir on April 7 and 8. A presentence investigation was ordered and sentencing was scheduled for 10 a.m. Aug. 27. The maximum sentence on each charge is 20 years in prison and a fine of not more than $50,000 plus a $20 fee and $5 surcharge.
Aaron M. Johnson, 18, Havre, pleaded guilty to two counts of burglary. The incidents occurred at Beaver Creek and Fresno cabins on April 7 and 8, 1999. A presentence investigation was ordered and sentencing was scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Aug. 27. Each count carries a maximum sentence of up to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $50,000, plus a $20 prosecution fee and $5 surcharge.
Ricky Eugene Robison, 20, Havre, pleaded guilty to felony burglary by accountability and obstructing a peace officer for incidents in the 700 block of First Street West on April 29 and 30. A presentence investigation was ordered. His sentencing is scheduled for 2 p.m. Aug. 26.
The misdemeanor obstructing charge carries a maximum sentence of six months in jail and a fine of up to $500 plus a $15 fee and $5 surcharge. The felony carries a sentence of not more than 20 years in prison and a fine of not more than $50,000 plus a $20 fee and $5 surcharge.
Christopher Edwin Roman, 18, Havre, was given a two-year deferred imposition of sentence on July 19 and was ordered to pay restitution plus 10 percent totaling $1,517.34.
Roman pleaded guilty in June to criminal mischief for causing more than $500 in damages by shooting personal and public property in the Badlands area on March 6.
Kendall Stuart Quinnell, 22, Havre, was given a two-year suspended sentence with credit for eight days served in jail for a criminal mischief offense. Quinnell was ordered to pay restitution plus 10 percent totaling $505.78 and all supervisory fees and surcharges.
Quinnell pleaded guilty June 14 to causing more than $500 in damages by shooting personal and public property in the Badlands area on March 6.
Byron Keith Wright, 45, Fort Belknap, was given a two-year deferred imposition of sentence and ordered to pay $1,000 restitution in attorney fees. Wright pleaded guilty during a trial in June to selling drugs to an informant in Havre on Dec. 15, 1997.
Arturo Maurice Manriquez, 21, Harlem, pleaded guilty to felony assault and misdemeanor attempted theft. The incident involved a knife and victims at a business west of Havre. A presentence investigation was ordered and sentencing was scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Aug. 26.
Manriquez faces a maximum sentence on the felony charge of 10 years in prison and a fine not to exceed $50,000 plus a $20 fee and $5 surcharge. The misdemeanor has a maximum sentence of six months in jail and a fine of up to $500 plus a $15 fee and $5 surcharge.
Kenneth Lee Piapot, 44, Box Elder, pleaded guilty to assault and was sentenced to six months in jail with all but five days suspended. The incident occurred at a residence in the 600 block of Fifth Avenue on Dec. 30, 1998. He was given credit for five days already served. He must remain law-abiding, complete anger management, have no contact with the victim, and pay $20 in surcharges.
Buddy Selby, 36, Havre, pleaded guilty July 19 to criminal mischief for driving his vehicle into another persons vehicle during an argument in Havre on June 4, 1999. An omnibus hearing has been scheduled.
