JOPLIN Anson E. Pimley, 81, died Thursday, Aug. 12, 1999, at a Chester hospital after a lengthy illness.
Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at the Joplin Cemetery with the Rev. Bart Coleman officiating.
Pimley was born June 20, 1918, north of Joplin to Percy and Estella (Skonord) Pimley. He attended the Burke country school near the family farm and finished his education at Joplin High School. He began working for the Civilian Conservation Corps. During WWII he enlisted into the U.S. Army Air Corps, serving from 1940 to 1944 and attaining the rank of staff sergeant.
On March 2, 1942, he married Sadie Dee Odo in California. After he was honorably discharged from the military the couple moved to Seattle. He was employed for Boeing. The couple later returned to California and worked in the communities of Chico, Mill Valley, and South Lake Tahoe. He owned and operated Valley Roofing, a roofing and siding construction business. The couple divorced in 1973.
Pimley later moved to Minden, Nev. After his retirement in 1980 he returned to Montana, living near St. Marys and later Joplin. He did carpentry work there until 1987 when he was diagnosed with cancer. He was hospitalized in Great Falls, Fort Harrison and Chester and later returned to Joplin. He entered the Liberty County Hospital three years ago.
His hobbies included hunting, fishing and gardening. He was raised in the Lutheran faith. He enjoyed western music, collecting old farm machinery and automobiles, watching construction projects and his pet dog.
He was preceded in death by his parents, to brothers, Orville and Jesse, and two infant siblings.
Survivors include three sons, Richard of Glenbrook, Nev., Dennis of South Lake Tahoe, Calif., and Barry of Leggett, Calif.; sisters, Joyce Easton of Helena and Viola Ness of Hingham; brothers, Vern and Donald of Joplin, Francis (Ike) of Londonberry, N.H. and Percy Jr. of Minden, Nev.; three grandchildren and two great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Arrangements and cremation are by Rockman Funeral Chapel of Chester.
