Where do we stand?
The answer will be known Saturday night after the MSU-Northern Skylight volleyball team completes three matches.
It will be known after they have had the opportunity to see six other Frontier Conference teams compete Saturday, Aug. 28, at the Frontier Scrimmage in the Straugh Gymnasium at Dillon.
It will be a good test for us to see where were at and where we need to be, first year head coach Handley said. Were going in there to see our strengths and weaknesses.
The Skylights will meet Montana Tech, Western Montana College and Rocky Mountain College at the tournament.
The Skylights, who finished 5-17 last season, look to be the surprise of the conference this year. The opponents Saturday look to be a good place to start.
The Orediggers, behind the veteran eye of head coach Marilyn Tobin, finished 17-11 last year. Rocky Mountain College, Handleys alma mater, finished 3-19 on the year. But Western Montana College looks to be the toughest opponent.
The Bulldogs finished 24-9 overall last season. And with an 8-0 conference record were crowned the 1998 regular season champion and the Conference champion.
The Skylights will also have the opportunity to watch fourth ranked Lewis-Clark State College of Lewiston, Idaho, compete.
With no set starters, Handley said all the Skylights must be ready to play in different positions.
Theyre going to show me who can get the job done, Handley said. All the girls are going to get a lot of playing time.
At this time, Handley said, team defense looks strong and the Skylight setters are hustling and able to get to a lot of balls.
Were looking to go down and play hard and play with a lot of heart, Handley said.
