HAYS Carol Jean Doney, 44, died Sunday, Sept. 5, 1999, in an auto-horse accident south of Ft. Belknap.

Wake will be held 5 p.m. Thursday with Rosary services at 7 p.m. at Hays/Lodgepole High School in Hays. Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Friday at Hays/Lodgepole High School with burial in the St. Pauls Mission Cemetery.

Doney was born Dec. 16, 1954, at Ft. Belknap to Glen and Mary L. (Longknife) Messerly. She was raised and educated in the Hays, Ft. Belknap area and attended school there and in Flandreau, S.D. She attended college at Ft. Belknap and graduated from MSU-Billings.

In 1979, she married Bruce Buzz Doney. She was employed as a juvenile probation officer for the Ft. Belknap tribes.

She enjoyed bingo, keno, riding horses and barrel racing.

Survivors include her husband, Bruce Buzz Doney of Hays; father, Glen Messerly of Harlem; daughter, Billie Jean Ball of Hays; sons, Barney Doney, Robert Glen Ball, Darwin M. Doney, all of Hays; sisters, Diane Healy, Barbara Ball, Glenda Messerly and Roberta M. Johnson of Harlem, and Marjorie Snell and Shirley Bell of Lodge Pole, brothers, Mike Messerly of Lodge Pole, Dean Messerly of Hays, Douglas Messerly of Harlem, Gordon Messerly of Harlem, Leon Messerly of Harlem, Robert Messerly of Lodge Pole, David Messerly of Ft. Belknap; and nine grandchildren.
