MALTA Betty Lou Devine Riley, 60, died Saturday, Sept. 11, 1999, at a Phillips County hospital of heart failure.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday at St. Marys Catholic Church in Malta, with a reception to follow in the church basement.

Riley was born Jan. 23, 1939, to George Thomas Frederick Devine and Lena Agnes Devine in Portland, Ore.

In April of 1967, she married Errol Riley, at Portland, Ore. The couple started Errol Riley Trucking and Construction.

They later moved to Central Oregon and had the ER Ranch in Powell Butte, Ore. They farmed and ranched 1,360 acres, 500 irrigated acres and ran 400 head of cows. The cattle ran in the Cascade Mountains. They left Butte in 1989 moving to Antelope, Ore., where they farmed and ranched. She was employed at Fred Devine Diving & Salvage as a co-owner with her sisters, Bonnie Pfannenstiel and Dixie Stambough. She was in charge of public relations work for the company.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Errol Riley, July 7, 1999, her parents and a sister, Peggy Lietz.

Survivors include sons, Charles Parks of Clackamas, Ore., and Ryan Riley of Malta; a daughter, Rachel Mortenson of Dodson; sisters, Bonnie Pfannenstiel and Dixie Stambough of Portland, Ore.; four grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
