The Central A Havre Blue Ponies will meet the Eastern AA Great Falls Bison Saturday to tie-up homecoming festivities.
As the Blue Ponies, 4-1 overall, were pounding the Fergus County Golden Eagles 56-40 Thursday, the Bison were handed their second loss of the season against intra-city rival C.M. Russell. The Bison fell 67-55.
They are one of the most improved teams in the state of Montana, head coach Dennis Murphy said.
A young 1998 Bison team has the added strength of former Box Elder Lady Bear Aimee Montez who helped lead the Lady Bears to a State Class C title last season.
Defensively, well have to keep her in check, Murphy said. Itll be a dog fight between us and them.
Megan Schmitz led the Bison against CMR with 16 points. Montez tore down 11 rebounds in the contest and chipped in eight points.
Kalia Fowler added 14 points in the loss.
The Bison, who play the passing lanes hard, also will show the Blue Ponies two things they havent seen yet this year.
Great Falls High plays a 2-2-1 press which the Ponies tasted only slightly against Anaconda earlier this season.
They also play a match-up zone defense which the Blue Ponies have not faced thus far.
The varsity tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m. at the Havre High School gymnasium.
