CHESTER Carole Elizabeth Krook, 63, Chester, died Monday, Sept. 27, 1999 after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 1, at the Chester United Methodist Church. Cremation will follow the services.
She was born Aug. 1, 1936 in Baker to William and Jennie (Probert) Ohlrich. She grew up on the family farm north of Plevna and graduated from Plevna High School in 1953.
She continued her education at Eastern Montana College in Billings where she received an associate degree in teaching. During the next few years she taught school at Livingston and Missoula while continuing her education at the University of Montana.
She married Marvin E. Krook on Aug. 10, 1958 at Red Lodge. She earned her bachelor of arts degree in elementary education from the University of Montana in 1959.
Both Krooks taught school in Thompson Falls for several years before transferring to Las Vegas, N.M. She received her masters degree in elementary education with a minor in history in 1963 from the New Mexico Highlands University.
The Krooks moved to Chester in 1963 after Marvin accepted a science teaching position at Chester High School. She opted to be a homemaker and mother to their three children. She also served as a substitute teacher in the Chester school system.
She and Rena Mullette co-founded the Chester preschool system. She was a teacher at the preschool for the next nine years.
She was a member in the United Methodist Church. She served as the church treasurer, sang in the choir, taught Sunday school, was past president of the United Methodist Women and was an active lay leader.
She was also a member of several teachers organizations, including the M.E.A. and N.E.A.
She was a past member of the Chester Garden Club, was an annual supporter of the Liberty Arts Council and was a member of the Northern Plains Resource Council.
Her hobbies included reading, camping, hiking, bird watching and counting, cooking and sewing.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her husband, Marvin, Chester; a son, Carson Krook, Flagstaff, Ariz.; two daughters, Stephanie Krook, Costa Rica, Central America, and Holly Krook Lozano, Portland, Ore.; a sister, Ruth Gates, Florence; a granddaughter and many nieces and nephews.
