CHESTER Marvin Edward Rishoff, 84, died Thursday, Oct. 7, 1999, at a Kalispell care center.
Funeral services were held 1 p.m. today at the Rockman Funeral Chapel in Chester. Graveside services will be held at 3:30 p.m. at the Mountainview Cemetery in Shelby.
Rishoff was born March 6, 1915, at Gary Village, Minn., to Anton Edward and Martha Holm Rishoff. The family moved to a farm near Chester when he was young. He received his education through the eighth grade and then began working on neighboring farms.
In 1942, he joined the U.S. Army. He served as a private in Company G of the 334th Infantry during WWII. After a year in the military, he was honorably discharged when he was called home to manage the farm of an uncle who was crippled in an accident.
On Dec. 3, 1946, he married Irene Olson Broadhurst. He purchased his uncles farm north of Lothair in 1949. The couple built a new home on the farm and lived there until their retirement. In 1971, they moved the house into Chester and resided there for many years. They later moved to Sweetgrass Lodge for a short time. They moved to Kalispell in 1993, and later to the Immanuel Lutheran Home.
He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church north of Lothair, and the Moose Lodge. His hobbies included hunting, gardening and yardwork. He enjoyed watching the news, weather and sports on television.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a step-son, Claude Broadhurst, and three sisters, Margaret Janewski, Dorothy Thennis and Eva Edmister.
Survivors include his wife, Irene of Kalispell; a son, James Rishoff of Kalispell; a step-daughter, Jean Harris of Diamond Springs, Calif.; a brother, Cyrus Rishoff of Big Fork; sisters, Hazel Standiford of Chester and Lillian Berglind of Shelby; two grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces.
Rockman Funeral Chapel of Chester is in charge of arrangements.
