HAYS -- Clifford Paul Doney, 75, died Thursday, Nov. 25, 1999, at a Great Falls hospital of complications of cancer surgery.

Wake and Rosary services were held yesterday. Funeral Mass was held this morning at St. Paul's Recreation Center with burial with military honors in St. Paul's Mission Cemetery.

Doney was born Nov. 22, 1924, on the family homestead west of Hays on Squaw Creek. He was raised there and attended the St. Paul's Mission School. He joined the U.S. Army during WWII.

On Sept. 5, 1955, he married Elizabeth Ann Fox in Chinook. He worked for the B.I.A. and for the Ft. Belknap Hospital until his retirement in 1991. During this time he was a full time rancher also.

His hobbies included being with his family, especially his grandchildren, visiting with the maintenance crew from the hospital, playing bingo and making wood crafts for his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, three sisters and a granddaughter.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth of Hays; sons, Clifford Dale, Hank, and Phillip Doney of Hays, Kenneth Doney of Chinook and Clarence and Brett Doney of Havre; daughters, Marilyn Bigby and Melessa Jackson of Ft. Belknap and Jennifer Doney and Marla Roberts of Hays; a brother, Ted Doney of Lodge Pole; 23 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Arrangements are by Edwards Funeral Home of Chinook.
