Frozen mist causes second power outage

By Martin J. Kidston

Cold temperatures and frozen mist continued to plague the Hi-Line region yesterday afternoon and together were responsible for a second power outage in so many hours.

Operations Manager with Montana Power Company Pat Patterson said that approximately 600 costumers in north and east Havre lost power Monday afternoon shortly after electricity was restored to an additional 1,400 people west of town.

Patterson said that around 12:45 p.m, Monday, a cable failed at the Havre city substation on First Street, which cause the north and east end of town to go black. Businesses in the area were forced to close before crews were able to restore power at 6:15 p.m.

Earlier in the day, ice and frozen mist caused a conductor to break west of Havre, severing power to communities as far west as Chester. The outage lasted up to two hours in Hingham, Kremlin and Gildford before power was restored at 10 a.m.
