LOTHAIR -- Annie Nell Diemert, 18, died at a Great Falls hospital of injuries sustained in a car accident.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Chester. Cremation and private burial of ashes will follow.
Diemert was born Jan. 22, 1981, at Chester, to Edward and Marcia (Freeman) Diemert. She grew up on the family farm near Lothair. She attended the Galata School for four years, then finished her education in Chester, graduating from Chester High school in May of 1999. She enrolled at Sheridan College in Sheridan, Wyo., this past fall and began her studies in the Dental Hygiene program.
During her high school years she was involved in 4-H, school and extracurricular activities. She was a Junior High Cheerleader, serving on the Junior High Drill Team. She held class offices during her high school years and was a Student Council representative. She was a member of "C" Club, Pep Club, VICA, and Girl Scouts. She was an honor roll student and earned Academic All-State in 1998 and 1999. She was also a Queen candidate for homecoming and prom.
She was involved in basketball, volleyball and track in grades seven through twelve and lettered in all three.
In basketball she received many awards including team co-captain, All Conference Player (Honorable Mention), and selection to play on the Northern-C team at the Radison All Star Games in Billings. She attended the Lady Griz Camp, participated in the Big Sky State Games and was the local 1995 Knights of Columbus Free Throw Champion. Her special awards at C.H.S. in 1998-99 included Most Assists and Most Inspirational Player.
Her senior highlights in volleyball included team co-captain, All Conference (Second Team), All State Defensive Specialist (First Team), and an invitation to play on the Class-C team at the All-State Tournament in Lewistown. In 1996, she attended the Lady Griz Volleyball Camp and was awarded the Most Valuable Player. Her special awards at C.H.S. in 1998-99 included Most Digs and Most Aces.
In track she earned the Most Improved Player award in 1996, and was recognized as Most Valuable Player in 1997. She competed at the State track meet in the shotput event in 1999.
She also earned many awards during her years in 4-H. She won the top Herdmanship trophy at the Marias Fair in 1992 and 1993. She won the blue ribbon for the best decorated cake in 1996, and was also awarded Junior Beef Showmanship Champion. Her most prized award was the Marias Fair Top Livestock Judge.
She worked part time as a dietary aide at the Liberty County Hospital and Nursing Home. This past summer she worked full time as a Health Care Assistant at the nursing home.
She enjoyed babysitting during her early teens, spending time with her nephew, talking and learning about the farming operation. She also enjoyed swimming, walking, hiking, listening to music, watching movies, outdoor activities like gopher hunting and fishing, and animals.
She was preceded in death by her grandfathers, Bud Freeman and Clark Diemert and two cousins, Willy Hunter and Magen Wickum.
Survivors include her parents, Ed and Marcia Diemert of Lothair; brothers, Ace of Ledger, Dillon of Edina, Minn., Clay of Bozeman and Colt of Lothair; her nephew, Clark; maternal grandmother, Ann Freeman of Chester; paternal grandmother, Nellie Diemert of Chester; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
A memorial fund is being established for a Scholastic Scholarship in her memory.
