GRACE STEWART
HELENA -- Grace Evelyn (Barnes) Stewart, 92, of Helena and formerly of Havre, died Friday, Dec. 3, 1999, at a Helena care center, of natural causes.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday at Van Orsdel United Methodist Church in Havre. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. There will be a reception held at the church following the interment.
Stewart was born Dec. 18, 1906, in Pleasant View, Idaho, to Hezekiah and Zola (Berry) Barnes.
She married James R. Stewart. The couple resided in Havre. She was a rural teacher out of Havre and was also employed at First Bank. He died in 1990, and she continued to live in Havre until 1998, when she moved to Helena.
She was an active member of the Methodist Church and was an auxiliary member and officer for the Veterans of Foreign Wars. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and gardening.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, sons, Raymond R. Stewart and James W. Stewart, a daughter, Delcia Joann Stewart, brothers, Wilber (Piney) Barnes, Walter Barnes and a sister, Gertrude Polesan.
Survivors include brothers, Howard and Arthur Barnes; a sister, Josephine Duhrkoff; daughters-in-law, Jean Stewart-Goetz of Helena and Jodi Stewart of Martinez, Calif.; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the donor's choice.
Retz Funeral Home of Helena is in charge of arrangements.
