Hill County deputies have identified a suspect in the case of a stolen pickup that was recovered in the hills south of Havre High School on Oct. 13, 1998.
Deputies responded to a call of a suspicious vehicle in the hills south of the high school that morning and found a 1999 Chevrolet extended cab pickup. It turned out to be stolen from a Havre car dealership's lot.
The vehicle sustained extensive damage in excess of $3,100. At the time there were no suspects and the crime was featured in Crimestoppers several times over the last 14 months.
Hill County Sheriff's Office personnel recently received information about the theft. Deputies interviewed some witnesses and gathered further information about the crime.
Deputies subsequently interviewed a suspect who, they said, admitted involvement in the theft.
The information was forwarded to the county attorney for review of possible charges. The 18-year-old man's name is being withheld pending formal charges.
