A Central, C North teams drop first game at Treasure State Classic in Billings

Tiffany Shrauger scored a team-high 14 points for naught as the A Central team was defeated 71-55 by the C East team at the opening-weekend Treasure State Classic game.

Sixteen teams were invited to the Classic that kicked off Thursday in Billings. The teams are comprised of all-star seniors throughout Montana.

Shrauger and Erin Patera were selected from Havre. Also on the A Central team was Shana Probst of Dillon who chipped in 10 points, and Kristin Madman of Browning, who snatched six steals in the contest.

Amanda Thornton of Lambert led the game-winning C East team with 15 points. Julie Kirkland of Nashua added 14 points, while Emily Niles of Fairview and Jackie Boos of Scobey tallied 10 points apiece. Boos also grabbed eight rebounds in the contest.

The C North team, comprised of players from, among other places, Big Sandy, J-I, and KG, was edged 76-73 by the A South team.

Sasha Ritter of the third-place state finishing Big Sandy scored 18 points in the loss. She also notched four assists.

Jen Siefert of KG chipped in 11 points in the effort, while Kim Freeman of Augusta added 14 points and eight rebounds.

Melissa Ross, a standout from Laurel on the A South team, led all scorers with 24 points.

In other tournament action, the A East team defeated the C West girls, 78-71.

All-state selection Cassie Chapman of second-place state finishing Lewistown, the MVP of the Central A, scored 17 points, had seven rebounds, and five steals in the contest. Rae Dawn Lei of the state A champion Colstrip Fillies notched eight points, five rebounds, and five steals.

On the opponent's side, Tessa Anderson of Drummond scored 17 points and Carla Breuer of Charlo grabbed nine boards in the effort.

The A Central team played at 11:30 a.m. at the Castle Rock Middle School in Billings Friday, while the C North team played at 8:30 a.m.
