Havre grapplers post third-place finish at Mining City Duals during the weekend

Junior Nick Holt (130) was named outstanding wrestler at the Mining City Duals held at Butte during the weekend.

Holt tallied pins in :24, :34, and :15, respectively, en route to a 130-pound title.

The Havre Blue Ponies wrestling squad finished third at the duals, defeating the Class A Sidney Eagles 45-26. The Ponies finished fourth last season at the duals.

Sophomore Ryan Chagnon (98) won 17-2 by technical fall over Ryan Carpenter in the consolation round.

Sophomore Chad Hedges (119) pinned Justin Collins in :39 for the win.

Junior Chad Maney (125) won by forfeit for the Ponies, while sophomore Jacob Szudera (135) pinned Josh Prevost in 2:57 for the win.

Junior Cody Hanson (140) pinned Jim Averrette in 1:06 for the victory, and sophomore K.P. Fisher (160) won a 17-5 major decision over Ken Moran.

C.J. Reichelt (189) captured his first title of the season, pinning Ray Hanson in 2:17 for the Ponies.

To open the duals, Havre defeated Class AA Billings Skyview 45-22.

Hedges pinned Jeremiah Fisher in 1:13. Holt pinned Derek Sauther in :24. Szudera won an 11-6 decision over Trevor Kaczmarek. Hanson pinned Josh Boyle in 5:01. Aaron Jensen (145) pinned Kelly Johnson in 2:00.

Fisher won a 5-0 decision over Tim Kaczmarek at 152 pounds. Garrett Hanson won a 4-2 decision over Bob Charlton at 160 pounds. Willie Hulett (171) won by pin in :50 over Sean Neill. Reichelt won by pin in :35 over Nick Parker.

Havre defeated Class AA Bozeman 51-25 with Chagnon, Hedges, Maney, Holt, Szudera, Fisher, Reichelt, and Cliff Springer (Hwt) each winning by pin.

Newell won a 7-4 decision over David Lee.

Havre fell 58-18 to the Class AA CMR Rustlers, which put them in the consolation bracket against Sidney. Chagnon pinned Lee Southard in :47 for the Ponies. Hedges won by pin in :31, and Holt pinned his opponent in :15. They were the only Ponies to notch wins in the round.

CMR went on to win the meet, with Class A Columbia Falls finishing second.
