A man suspected of stealing a car in east Havre early Thursday night landed in hospital about an hour later, according to a police report this morning.
A hospital spokeswoman said this morning that Gary Bullard, 40, of Havre, was treated for his injuries during night and released.
Police first heard of the incident when a resident of the 900 block of Third Street called shortly after 8 p.m. Thursday to complain that someone stole his 1991 Pontiac. The car was idling in the alley when a man got into it and drove off. The victim said he got into another vehicle and followed his car for a distance before losing sight of it.
About 40 minutes later, a highway patrol officer reported sighting the car approximately three miles north of Havre while investigating a complaint that the car had been speeding around the Northside.
Officers pursued the suspect until he lost control of the car at the intersection of Seventh Avenue and Fifth Street North and wrecked.
Officers reported that the man was seriously injured in the mishap but still managed to flee the scene on foot. Deputies found Bullard a short time later and called an ambulance.
Police reported that numerous charges are pending against Bullard in connection with the theft and pursuit.
