The Havre Public Schools Board of Trustees met Tuesday night for its monthly meeting at the Havre Middle School to discuss a variety of topics, ranging from easements to audits to general reports.
But before business was dealt with, the district recognized its five employees of the quarter; JoAnn Hergesheimer, Vicki Kutzler, Valerie Wolf, Rose Cloninger and Vicke Larson.
Hergesheimer is the assistant cook at Havre High School, Kutzler is a teacher's assistant, Wolf is the transportation employee, Cloninger is the high school's head custodian and Larson is a personnel assistant.
Later, the board heard details of a proposed easement to extend sewer services across property adjoining Havre High School.
The 30-foot easement would extend across a field south of Havre High School, from 20th Street to Freeman Park, which sits north of the Lusin Subdivision. Concerns for safety barriers were expressed, along with the current and future irrigation systems.
The board was told that the project would not interfere with the sprinkler system because the sewer line would be installed at a deeper depth than the irrigation system.
Miles Hamilton presented the board with the audit report for fiscal year 1999. The report was in order, with the exception of the following three findings:
n Enrollment at the elementary school was over-reported by one student in the fall, 1999 report;
n The Elementary Capital Projects fund, dated June 30, 1999, did not include material accounts, payable in the amount of $99,354. An adjustment was made to correct the error;
n The Havre Public School system will develop a written plan to comply with the regulations listed by the U.S. Department of Education's Elementary and Secondary Education Act.
The Havre School District recently sent three counselors, Kay Nessland, Mark West and Wanda Meland to a training session on the latest methods regarding suicide prevention. The district's goal is to educate parents, students and staff in suicide prevention and, in the long run, to decrease the number of suicide attempts made each year.
Dennis Parman presented the board with the preliminary draft of the Profile Report. The report presents a range of "quality indicators" for the school district. The district plans to use the indicators to build a comprehensive picture of the district's strengths and weaknesses.
The Board of Trustees went into executive session to discuss the salary of the superintendent. The next board meeting will be held January 11, 2000 at 6:30 p.m. at the Havre Middle School.
