Wasson, Andersen awarded high school coaches of the year

Gregg Wasson, the head coach of Blue Sky/KG Eagles six-man football team, and Paul Andersen, the head coach of the KG KouGar cross country team, were voted Coach of the Year, the Montana Coaches Association announced.

Wasson helped lead the Eagles to their second consecutive State Class C six-man football title.

The Eagles, who entered the playoffs as the No. 3 seed from the North, trounced West Yellowstone 46-8 in the championship game.

Andersen helped lead the KouGars to their fourth-straight State Class C cross country title.

KG scored 29 points, placing four harriers in the top 10 at the race. The second-place team, Manhattan Christian, scored 79 team points.

The KouGars also boasted the top individual titlist in sophomore Aaron Smith, who won the race in 15:37.

Awards will be held Aug. 2-4, 2000, at the C.M. Russell High School at Great Falls. The ceremony will be held at noon on Aug. 3 in the auditorium, with a luncheon to follow. The event is open to the public.

Dennis Murphy, the head girls' basketball coach at Havre High School, was voted coach of the year in the Central A.
