A city-wide Family Game Night will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Lincoln-McKinley Elementary School cafeteria.
Everyone in the community is invited to attend, but all children must be accompanied by adults.
Co-sponsored by Havre Public Schools and HELPs Drug Free Communities Project, the evenings activities will include a variety of card and board games. Refreshments will be provided, and a special appearance will be made by McGruff the Crime Dog.
Organizers Laura Malisani and Krista Young said they hope people will play new and old favorite games. They anticipate card games to include whist, pinochle, crazy 8, Old Maid, war, Uno and go fish, and maybe even bridge, hearts and spades. Board games expected to be popular range from Scrabble and Yahtzee to Monopoly and Chutes and Ladders to Checkers and Chess. There also will be Twister for the more agile and active game players.
Organizers have no idea how many people to expect, but have made arrangements for any spill-over of participants to move into the school gym.
People who would like to teach their favorite games to others are asked to call the HELP Office at 265-6206. Young said HELP will make every effort to purchase games people recommend.
At the end of the evening, some of the games will be given out as door prizes.
Young and Malisani said evaluation forms will be given out during the evening so people can make suggestions for future family game nights.
As we go on next year, we can have some tournaments and things, Malisani said.
Anyone who wants to teach kids and other adults their favorite game, give me a call, Young said.
