The first game was a nailbiter and the second an 18-run festival as the Havre Northstars swept the Vauxhall Spurs Saturday at Legion field.

The Northstars scattered 12 hits in the 8-7 triumph over the Spurs in the first game of the twinbill.

In a skin-tingling bottom of the seventh and down by two runs, with one out, Northstar Ryan Evans turned a 1-0 pitch into a triple to the right field wall. Jake Ingram scored from second base to even the game at seven.

Next batter, Jarrod Wirt, on a 1-0 pitch with Evans on third, saw Spurs pitcher Rod Larson throw a pitch off the top of catcher Lance Kostiws glove that landed in the stadium net. Evans jogged in the game-winning run.

Evans went 2-for-4 with one double, one triple and one RBI in the victory. Nate Baltrusch went 3-for-4 with one RBI.

Josh Lybecker, who pitched 1 2/3 innings and had five strike outs, notched the save for the Northstars.

In the second game, the Northstars led 9-1 at the end of two innings and continued to slash the ball across the field scattering 19 hits in the 18-8 thumping.

Alan Mapes went 4-for-5 from the plate, notched six RBIs and planted three doubles, all down the third base line, in the victory. Wirt also went 4-for-5 with one RBI.

Ricky Brown collected five RBIs, batted 3-for-5 and had a double in the win. Baltrusch went 2-for-4 and had three RBIs.
