LODGEPOLE Elsie Eaglelite, 92, died Monday, Aug. 2, 1999 at the Northern Montana Hospital of natural causes.
Wake services will be 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 4, at the Medicine Bear Lodge in Lodgepole. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 5, at the Medicine Bear Lodge with burial in the Lodgepole Cemetery.
She was born Nov. 30, 1914 at Lodgepole, the daughter of John F. and Mary (Gadegey) Healy. She was raised in Lodgepole and the Big Warm and attended high school in Chenawa, Ore.
She married George Eaglelite on Aug. 17, 1933 at Big Warm. He died April 3, 1988.
She worked with the school board by traveling and visiting other schools and telling about the Indian history. She helped at the ranch and did everything that was needed, including riding horses and working the cattle. She was still riding at 85 years of age.
Eaglelite was noted for her bead work and had a pair of beaded moccasins on display at the Smithsonian in Washington D.C. She enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her daughters, Mildred Meldrum of Ellensburg, Wash., Jeanette Oldham, Adell Demarais of Spokane, Wash.; a son, Alfred Moccasin of Chinook; three special grandchildren that she raised; 15 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Adams Funeral Home of Malta is in charge of arrangements.
