The big show hits town tomorrow The Great Northern Fair.

Filled with activities for the youngest youngster to the young-at-heart senior, the fair becomes the primary focus for Havre and the Hi-line for five days running.

Fair manager Mike Spencer, along with his staff and the Hill County Fair Board, work hard all year to put together a premium program with something for everyones taste. Not a simple task considering the variety of people found even in a small Montana county.

The myriad of 4-H activities are more than worth a look, even for those far removed from the farm and ranch lifestyle. The commitment and dedication demonstrated by these young people and their various projects is impressive. From cooking and sewing, to poise and performance, to animal rearing and training, and more, the 4-Hers show what can be accomplished by todays youth.

Entertainment abounds at the Great Northern Fair rodeos, musical acts, comedians, business displays, art shows, demolition derbies, carnival rides, and games galore.

And food. Heaven knows, we cant forget the fabulous fair food.

Yes, Spencer and his crew put together quite the show. But one thing they cant do is read minds. Without feedback from the public, they cant really determine what was a hit and what was a flop.

This is where you, the readers, come in.

Every year as the fair closes, we hear people talking about the fair good and bad. But thats where it ends. This year we hope it will be different.

As you wander the fairgrounds this year, take in the shows, view the displays, make mental note of what you did or didnt enjoy. Then, when the fair is over, take time to write us a letter and let us know what you thought both positive and negative. Or, if you dont want it published, send the letter to Spencer and the fair board.

Planning for each years fair begins as soon as the last fair closes. With your input, the Great Northern Fair can only become even bigger and better as we enter the new millennium.
