Blue Pony girls match up against one another

The blues and whites are gearing up for some basketball action tonight at the Havre High School gymnasium.

The Havre girls basketball team will be holding its annual Blue and White scrimmage and head coach Dennis Murphy hopes to see great execution of offensive and defensive maneuvers, he said.

We going to do some different things offensively and defensively, Murphy said.

The squad will hold a floor demonstration at 5:45 p.m. for parents and fans. They will run through some practice drills and demonstrate some set plays that they have been perfecting in the preseason.

Head-to-head competition will begin at 6:30 p.m. with the Blue Ponies running an evenly split first half game, mixing the junior varsity and varsity players.

In the second half, the varsity will take on the junior varsity.

No starters have been named at this time but Murphy has two seniors, Erin Patera and Tiffany Shrauger, who have shown leadership skills on the floor.

Our seniors have come in so far and shown pretty good leadership with their effort, Murphy said.

Last season, Havre finished 16-2, with a first place finish in the Central A conference, and 20-4 overall. The Blue Ponies lost five seniors to graduation.

With the loss of experience came the loss of consistency on the floor.

We need to focus on consistency, Murphy said. Itll be an instructional year. A lot of people will have to step up.
