The Beavers chomped the Blue Pony heels Friday, but Havre came back and pawed the snakes Saturday to end the tip-off tournament with a 1-1 split.
The Beaverhead County Beavers downed the Havre Blue Ponies 61-47 Friday at the Central A tip-off tournament in Lewistown.
Alyssa Matter had a team-high 13 points in the loss.
Senior Tiffany Shrauger grabbed four rebounds and had five steals.
Sophomore Jeri Matter collected four boards while Alyssa Matter tallied four steals in the contest.
We didnt handle their pressure in the first quarter at all, said head coach Dennis Murphy. We turned the ball over numerous times and gave them lay-ups early.
The Ponies were down 14 points by the first quarter buzzer and could not dig themselves out of the hole in the fast-paced contest.
Havre caused 34 Beaver turnovers and went to the foul line 29 times in the effort.
However, Dillon canned seven 3-pointers to expand the point spread.
Weve got to come out ready to play from the beginning, Murphy said.
Saturday, they did just that.
Havre downed Anaconda 57-45 to redeem the previous nights loss.
Shrauger scored a game-high 27 points including six trays and went 7-for-7 from the foul line.
Senior Erin Patera, who was strangely quiet in the season opener, snatched seven boards in the victory.
We had some nice runs offensively and defensively, Murphy said.
However, the Copperheads kept knocking on the door, overcoming sometimes 10-point deficits to remain in contention for the win.
Anaconda played in spurts, Murphy said. We let them back in the door.
The Ponies are ranked No. 5 in the Central A with a 1-1 record.
They host Fort Benton Friday at 7:30 p.m.
