Midterm is here

By Kirk Miller

Greetings from Havre Public Schools! The mid-term of first quarter is here and reports from the schools have been sent home. Please spend some time with your student discussing their progress at this point in the year and it will pay dividends as the year progresses.

Here is an update on current happenings in our schools.

Did you know ...

Havre Middle School teacher, Judy Wolfe, was recently recognized as a Milken Foundation Educator Award winner. This is a national recognition for Judys contribution to the education of many students during her years of service in Havre Public Schools. State Superintendent, Nancy Keenan, presented the award to Judy at an assembly for Havre Middle School students and staff on October 5. Congratulations Judy, we are proud of you!

District projects related to the District Educational Work Plan for 1999-00 are under way. The project teams are meeting to establish performance indicators, a tool for determining progress. I would like to extend a thank you in advance to the many community members who serve on project teams for your contribution to our school district and community. I will continue to update the community on District Educational Work Plan progress throughout the year.

Havre Public Schools Board of Trustees ...

The Havre Trustees will be reviewing several items at their upcoming meeting on October 12. Two of the items they will consider are the school district final budget update, and a review of the school district enrollment figures. Our enrollment continues to decline as does the enrollment of most every school district along the hi-line and across the state. A proactive plan will be developed to address student educational needs in the face of declining enrollment.

Havre Public School Team ...

We continue to work productively to meet the needs of children in our district. Thank you to all of the parents and community members for your continued support of Havre Public Schools. A special thanks to our Board of Trustees Judy Bricker (Chair), Jim Heberly (Vice Chair), Aileen Couch, Teresa Miller, Brian Morse, Kathie Newell, Jay Springer, and Denise Thompson for the many hours they commit to the Havre Public School Team! Havre Public Schools, entering the new millennium providing excellent opportunities for children!
