A committee formed to discuss the possible addition and/or deletion of athletic activities at Havre High School will hold its second meeting Monday, Oct. 18, at 7 p.m. at Robins School.
The meeting will focus on three presentations, fact-finding input and will set the protocol for public meetings. The date for the first public meeting is tentatively scheduled for late October.
Debi Rhines, the soccer representative, Kristy Kline, the softball representative, and Ron Watson, the boys cross country representative, will each present proposals concerning their specific programs.
The following information must be provided by each of the groups: seasons of the activities, information about the current activity, facilities that will be needed, maintenance issues, schedules, number of participants and teams needed, number of coaches and availability of these coaches, expectations in terms of level of participation, gear needed, locker room use, officials needed, extra requirements, for example, cheerleaders, ticket takers.
Charlie Klimas, Havre High School activities director, Ginger Zanto, transportation director, and Karla Wohlwend, Title IX director, will bring in specific facts concerning their areas of expertise that will include equity numbers, participant numbers and bus use by certain activities.
The task force, a group of 19 people compiled by Superintendent Kirk Miller, was assembled to provide the Havre School Board of Trustees with a series of written alternatives addressing the addition and/or deletion of athletic programs. That proposal is projected to be presented at the February board meeting.
Members of the task force are expected to seek the involvement of their affected parties. Through the public meeting forum, they are charged to seek public input.
