The Havre Public Schools Board of Trustees wasted little time in approving its one major piece of business Tuesday night.
In a unanimous vote, the board approved revisions to the districts policy governing the evaluations of coaches and advisors of extra-curricular activities.
Superintendent Kirk Miller explained that the revisions were primarily intended to clarify the policy. For example, the reference to the assistant superintendent was changed to personnel director. The policy now identifies the personnel director as the administrator who serves as resource person to the supervisors administering the evaluations.
Copies of the evaluation forms for the head coaches and forms for the coaches assistants were included in the policy.
Mr. Klimas (Activities Director Charlie Klimas) has spent about six months looking at the forms, Miller said. (The new wording) just clarifies it a great deal more than previously about who is to be evaluated and how often.
The policy revision requires all head coaches and the high school speech and debate coach, drama director, and band and choir directors to be evaluated annually by the activities director. The head coaches and directors must then assist the activities director with evaluations of their assistants.
The policy says that all other activity coaches, sponsors, directors may be evaluated at the discretion of the activities director. The policy does not limit evaluations to once annually, either, Miller said.
Advisors of extra-curricular activities may be subject to evaluations, too, but arent specifically mentioned in the policy, Miller said.
The board also gave its unanimous approval to the consent agenda and personnel appointments.
The next regular meeting of the board of trustees is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 14, at Havre Middle School.
