A Havre High School freshman quartet and a sophomore soloist have been selected to All-Northwest honor choirs comprised of singers from throughout Montana, Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Alaska.
Though prestigious, this year's choirs are not to be confused with the All-Northwest band and choral groups that are selected on alternating years and will be formed again next year.
The quartet of soprano Carrie Flatau, alto Alicia Rundquist, tenor Cory Junck, and bass Hans Williams were selected to the Northwest Division of American Choral Directors Association Middle School Honor Choir. Jerold Albertson, a sophomore, was selected to the Men's Honor Choir.
The choirs will get together to rehearse and perform at the ACDA convention in Seattle, Wash. March 9-11, 2000.
All five singers were selected from audition tapes prepared by HHS choir director Frank Payn.
The quartet members owe much of their training to this point, Payn said, to Havre Middle School choir director Darla Cook. All four were members last year of Spotlighters, the HMS elite ensemble.
The quartet performs as a quartet in Havre, but will become part of the 160-voice choir in Seattle.
Selection to the choirs is an honor without recompense. The students still have to come up with the $95 cost of admission to the choirs and the funds to cover their travel, rooms and meals. Payn said the students are expected to be accompanied by their parents.
The quartet has prepared a wide repertoire of Christmas music it hopes to sing for its fare. They said they would gladly sing at parties, luncheons and other activities.

An account for donations to the quartet has been established at First Security Bank under the name All Northwest Honor Choir.
