MARY SILVERNALE SANCHEZ
Mary Silvernale Sanchez, 74, Glenwood, N.M. died Nov. 4, 1999 at her home after a long illness.
Sanchez was born Dec. 20, 1924 in Big Sandy to Frank and Ollie Silvernale. She graduated from Box Elder High School and attended college at NMC in Havre.
Sanchez was a civilian employee with the federal government for most of her working life. She served with the U.S. Army in Pirmasens, Germany, with Naval Supply Depot on Guam, and with the military attache in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, before returning to Germany with the U.S. Military Liaison Mission in Berlin. Between overseas tours of duty, she worked at Point Mugu, Port Hueneme and Davis Calif. In 1968, she served the first of two duty tours in Vietnam, returning to the United States after the Tet offensive.
She subsequently worked as personnel assistant for the National Park Service in Death Valley and Rocky Mountain National Park at Estes Park, Colo.
Upon her retirement in 1979, she married Pete Sanchez in Havre. They lived in Death Valley, Calif. and Halealala National Park, Maui, Hawaii until he retired in 1990.
They moved to Glenwood, N.M. where Mary was active in community affairs. She was an avid reader, golf fan, and square dancer.
Sanchez is survived by her husband, Pete, of Glenwood; sister, Donna Horel of Rudyard; brother, Bill Silvernale of Havre; and several nieces and nephews.
