HAVREEN FRYDENLUND
DEVON -- Havreen Elizabeth (Heydon) Frydenlund, 86, died Thursday, Dec. 2, 1999, at a Liberty County care center.
Funeral services were held this morning at the Devon Lutheran Church. Graveside services were held at the Valleyview Cemetery in Shelby.
Frydenlund was born April 6, 1913, in Havre, to Elmer Frank Heydon and Effie Taplin Heydon. She grew up on a farm north of Joplin. She attended Meldrum Country School and graduated from Joplin High School in 1931.
On Oct. 24, 1936, she married Russell "Pat" Frydenlund in Havre. The couple moved to Devon in 1938, and spent the rest of their married life there. She worked as a bookkeeper at the Farmers Union Oil Company in Devon for eight years. In 1954, she became the Postmaster at Devon, a job she held until her retirement in 1976. The post office was located in the Gardner Grocery Store, so she also helped in the store during her time there.
After the death of her husband in 1971, she became friends and companions with Ernest Gardner who died in 1984. She moved to Chester to the Sweetgrass Lodge in 1985. She was later transferred to Liberty County Nursing Home.
She enjoyed kids and volunteered as a 4-H leader in Devon for many years. She became a confirmed member of the Devon Lutheran Church in 1985. She was an excellent seamstress, making her own clothing. She enjoyed embroidery, knitting, word puzzles, letter writing and her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and six siblings, Cecil, Clyde, Franklin, Lloyd and Lyle Heydon and Lois Aspevig.
Survivors include sisters, Dorma Hadford of Chester and Fern Keith of Grand Forks, N.D.; a brother, Ferroll Heydon of Dragoon, Ariz.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorials will be given to the American Heart Association.
Rockman Funeral Chapel of Chester is in charge of arrangements.
