Winning proved sweet for the Chinook Sugarbeeters Saturday at Simms.
Balanced scoring defined the 'Beeters 67-61 win over the Simms Tigers in non-conference action.
"We're happy to get that under our belts," said first-year head coach Glenn Smith. "We shot the ball well and we rebounded as a team a lot better."
Kalled Jaha scored a team-high 17 points to lead Chinook, and rebounded the ball well for the 'Beeters.
"Our defense had its bright spots," Smith said. "Now we need to put together a complete game and we will be a lot more effective."
Troy Omsberg, who scored the first six points of the game via power moves inside, tallied 13 points, Justin Friede added 12, and Mason Roseberry chipped in 15 in the win.
"I think Justin Friede had a good floor game for us," Smith said.
Tyler Oehmke and Lucas Paugh came off the bench and performed their roles very well, Smith added.
Tim Dennis, a junior with no varsity experience, also came off the bench.
"He really showed us he could play at that level and that was good to see," Smith said.
Chinook (0-1, 1-4) notched its first win in four tries against Simms.
Chinook has two more games before Christmas. They will play Harlem at home in conference action Tuesday, Dec. 21.
Wednesday, the Sugarbeeters will travel to Malta in conference action to sew up the 1999 year.
