Sometimes pranks backfire and perpetrators become the victims.
That's exactly what happened to a pair in a pickup whose prank went up in smoke in the 500 block of First Street shortly before midnight Friday.
An officer was approaching the pickup when he saw the driver throw a lit smoke bomb from the cab of the truck. Before the officer could make a traffic stop on the pickup, the passenger lit another smoke bomb. The passenger then saw the officer's patrol car and elected not to throw the smoke bomb out the window.
The officer pulled the pickup over and waited for the smoke to clear from the cab before speaking with the two occupants.
The officer subsequently found alcohol in the pickup and cited both men. The 20-year-old man was cited with a minor-in-possession of alcohol offense and his 21-year-old companion was cited with committing an unlawful transaction with a minor.
