KouGars, Thunderbirds vie for early District 9-C lead

By Tiffany L. Rehbein

With the pre-Christmas rush to play as many games as possible out of the way, the early boys' basketball season in the District 9-C has begun to take shape.

The KG KouGars lead the district with a 2-0 conference record and 3-1 overall record.

The KouGars opened the season with a 68-37 loss to Dutton. They have gone on to win three straight to sew up the December schedule.

The Hays/Lodgepole T'Birds improved to 3-2 overall with a huge win Wednesday night.

The T'Birds are 2-0 in conference play, also, and might not meet KG until the district tournament.

The Blue Sky Eagles (1-1, 3-2) are third in the district. Although they have alternated wins and losses in the early season, the wins have been big.

The Eagles defeated Brady 93-28, Big Sandy, 75-32, and, most recently, Sunburst , 60-49.

Blue Sky has suffered losses to KG and Dutton, who each lead its respective districts.

The Rocky Boy Stars, the only other team with a winning record, is 1-1 and 2-2.

They, too, have alternated wins and losses, falling to Hays/Lodgepole 59-57 on Dec. 18.

Turner, Box Elder, and Big Sandy are each 0-2 in the conference.

Turner is 1-3 overall, while Box Elder collected its first win Tuesday when they edged Dodson, 75-73.

Big Sandy is 0-5 overall.
