BIG SANDY -- Ernest Anthony "Ernie" Geyer, 84, a Big Sandy farmer, died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 1999, at a Big Sandy medical center of natural causes.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Monday at the Christ Lutheran Church in Big Sandy with the Rev. Rich Jespersen officiating. Following the services a luncheon will be held in the church fellowship hall.

Geyer was born April 3, 1915, at Danvers, Minn., to John and Lydia (Roediger) Geyer. He grew up and received his education in Minnesota.

In 1932, he traveled to Montana on a Harley Davidson motorcycle to visit his brother at Big Sandy. He then became a resident of Big Sandy. He initially farmed with his brother west of town on the Kenilworth Road before acquiring a small farm of his own. In 1944, he earned his private pilot's license. He started the aerial crop spraying business Geyer's Air Spray in 1965 which he operated until 1984. He did custom harvesting in the Big Sandy area.

In 1938, he married Delvene Courtnage. He married Judy Wigmore in 1972.

Geyer was a life time member of the Havre Elks Lodge and a member of the Havre Eagles, the National Rifle Association, the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, and the Montana Pilots Association.

His hobbies included fishing, hunting, gunsmithing, reading, playing guitar and harmonica, and was an avid professional baseball fan. In earlier years he enjoyed mining for gold and bowling. He remained a motorcycle enthusiast throughout his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and four sisters.

Survivors include his wife, Judy of Big Sandy; sons, Gary and Larry of Big Sandy; a step-son, Jim Anderson of Cottonwood, Ariz.; a step-daughter, Debi Larsen of Geraldine; sisters, Arlene Sibra of Big Sandy and Hazel Vadnais of Grand Rapids, Minn.; 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces.

Memorials are suggested to the Big Sandy Medical Center or the donor's choice.
