KouGars rebuild behind strong new offense

By Tiffany L. Rehbein

Jen Siefert is the lone senior for the KG KouGars this fall.

Lucky for the KouGars, she is also a returning starter and a 6-foot power at the middle hitter position.

Juniors Ashley Melby, Kristin Preeshl, and Lindsey Johnson are also returning letter-winners on the team this season.

"We're rebuilding this year," fifth-year head coach Kathy Preeshl said. "The girls have a great attitude. They are very hard-working and are willing to learn new ideas."

That willing attitude should be beneficial this season, while Preeshl and her squad implement a new offense.

"It will take time for everyone to know their role," Preeshl said, and after one weekend of pre-Christmas play at the KG Open, Preeshl saw a bright future.

"They ran the new offense fairly well," Preeshl said. "I think it will come together."

At the KG Open, the KouGars won all of their games.

"I saw a lot of stuff we have to work on," Preeshl said, "but, I also saw some good things that only live-game situations warrant."

The youth on the team lends to its use of a new offense.

Sophomores Brooke Letang, Darci Stewart, Abbie Toner, and Malissa Williams, and freshmen Kim Berg, Stef Dees, Lauren Hanson, Sasha Haugen, Celeste Nordrum, and Emily Stewart round out the KouGar roster.

KG returns to action Saturday, Jan. 8, when they host District 5C rival Big Sandy.
