DOROTHY GRATTON

CHINOOK -- Dorothy M. Gratton, 80, died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 1999, at a Great Falls hospital of complications from heart surgery.

Memorial Vigil services will be held 7 p.m. Friday in Saint Gabriel's Catholic Church with Memorial Mass recited 11 a.m. Saturday in the church.

Gratton was born Nov. 26, 1919, to Daniel and Sadie (Winkler) Rost in Greely, Colo. She attended school in Eugene, Ore.

On Sept. 23, 1936, she married O.C. "Chuck" Gratton in Eugene, Ore. The couple moved to Chinook in 1940. She was employed at Paulson's Five and Dime Store in the 1950s and worked for Dr. Robert Leeds in the 1960s.

The couple moved to Billings in the early 1970s and were house parents. They returned to Chinook in 1974. He died in 1988.

She was an active Girl Scout leader, involved in the P.T.A., and a member of St. Gabriel's Catholic Church and the Altar Society.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a brother, Claud Rost, and a sister, Gladys Rost.

Survivors include daughters, Lonnie Eve of Great Falls, Pat Friede of Lovell, Wyo., Sharon Hanson of Billings and Beverly Nash of Anaconda; a brother, Clifford Rost of Dallas, Ore.; sisters, Lucile Powers of Chandler, Ariz., and Mildred Lindly of Eugene, Ore.; 21 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials are suggested to the Meadowlark Special Project at the Meadowlark Elementary School in Chinook.
