Patrick Foundation buys hats for speech tournament winners

The Natalie Patrick Foundation will be involved in the State Class A-B-C Speech and Drama Tournament.

The Foundation is helping to buy prizes for the tournament. Linda Patrick-Hayes, member and secretary for the foundation's board, said 19 hats with the logo "A-B-C Speech and Debate Champs 2000" have been purchased for the champion team.

Tom and Carolyn Patrick set up the foundation after the death of their daughter Natalie to help provide funding in areas Natalie was involved in, Patrick-Hayes said. The foundation's board currently offers funding to help speech and debate, the high school band, the high school art department, the high school golf team, and the Havre City Parks and Recreation Department, where Natalie worked.

Patrick-Hayes said the family wanted to help fund some low profile activities that aren't as well-recognized as some.

"Natalie really was involved in some areas that don't get a lot of recognition," she said.

Patrick-Hayes said the foundation could easily grow to help fund other areas as well.

She was excited about the hats because they had the year "2000" on them.

"It's kind of fun to have the 2000 state tournament in town," she said.
