Classes Thursday were a little different from normal at Lincoln-McKinley School.
Students rotated through 12 different career samplings demonstrated by volunteers from the community instead of attending their normal classes.
Wendy Rummel, a member of the school's parent teacher organization and one of the organizers of the event, said they have been doing the fair for a few years now.
Rummel said the students spend 30 minutes to an hour in each class, depending on the class. They try to rotate all of the students through as many of the activities as possible, she said. Unfortunately, there's not enough time to get all of the students through every one, she said.
Many people volunteer time for the fair, Rummel said.
The presenters included Sue O'Connell for karate, Lon Waid for rodeo, Cheryl Schaub for stenciling, Terry Turner for plants, Dyann Otto and Fran Buell for dog training, Doug Shepherd for golf, the Havre Fire Department for fireman/safety, Sandy Cartwright for aerobics, Terry Sather for jump rope, Cindy Keim for first aid and Mike Hamilton for kite making. Marie Toldness taught pottery in the morning, and Steve Helmbrecht taught the class in the afternoon. Many of these presenters also had volunteers helping them with the presentations.
Lincoln-McKinley Principal Karen Swenson said the PTO is the organizer of the event. They set it up and organize the volunteers, she said.
PTO member Theresa Larsen is the driving force for the fair, Rummel said. She said it's a nice opportunity for the students.
"It lets them see what they might want to do in the future," Rummel said. "We show them different things they can be when they grow up."
