Senior spikers sparkle in Central A

By Tiffany L. Rehbein

Four seniors and one sophomore highlight the Central A conference leaders, according to stats released on Feb. 12.

Lisa Wagner has maintained her No. 1 position with a 98.1 individual serve percentage.

Wagner has missed just five serves in more than 75 games this season.

Wagner is sixth in the league with 232 assists. She is averaging 3.74 per game for the Blue Ponies.

With the Blue Pony offense, Kirsten Kuka has 217 assists this season. She is ninth in the league, averaging 3.3 per game.

Erin Patera maintains her fourth-place ranking with 188 kills on the season, averaging 2.91 per game.

Patera is second in the division with 58 aces. She is averaging .842 per game.

Patera is tough at the net with a 10th place standing in blocks. She has tallied 23 this season, collecting one against Chinook in last weekend's matchup.

Patera has 150 digs this season, collecting 2.56 per game. She is fourth in the division with the mark.

Tiffany Shrauger has advanced one notch in the aces category.

Shrauger is fourth in the league with 49 aces on the season, averaging .702 per game.

She is also a fine defensive player for Havre, collecting 147 digs on the year. She is 10th in the division, averaging 2.46 per game.

Sophomore Amy Ranes has become strong on the block, collecting 23 this season for the Ponies.

Havre is second in the North Subdivision of the Central A with a 13-4 overall mark and 5-2 conference record.

The two conference losses came against the Belgrade Panthers (17-4, 7-1) in the opening-season match and the Fergus County Golden Eagles of Lewistown (14-4, 7-1) in January.

The Ponies will face Lewistown on Saturday in the Havre Triangular. Browning (0-14, 0-7) will also be in town for some volleyball action.

Lewistown's Janalee Stokken and Lindsay Garcia are even players offensively. They are Nos. two and three in kills in the league.

Stokken is averaging more than three kills per game, while Garcia is averaging 2.96.

Stokken is also tough on the block, averaging .890 per game. She is second in the league.

Jamie Slagel is second in the division, averaging 8.52 assists per game for Lewistown.

The Golden Eagles are No. 1 in team serve percentage at 90.65.

However, Lewistown's greatest weakness appears to be defense where, while Havre boasts veteran experience in the back row, Lewistown struggles for consistency.
