Junior varsity basketball ends season

The Havre Blue Pony junior varsity team, under direction of Mark West, finished its 1999-2000 with a 6-12 mark.

During the last five games of the season, the Ponies struggled with a 1-4 record, falling to Class AA Great Falls High and CMR, Class A power Lewistown, and Class B strength Malta.

Dan Wirtzberger, Jason Bowker, Brandon Crawford, Brian DeRosa, Chris Daniel, David Knight, Mike Frey, Colby Smith, and Casey Arensmeyer comprised the team.

Frey led the Blue Ponies this year, averaging nine points per game.

Frey poured in 23 points against Great Falls High on Jan. 29. He popped four 3-pointers in the contest. The Ponies lost the game, 81-67.

Knight scored 14 points in the game and joined Frey in double digits.

Against Browning, Frey and Daniel combined for 28 points en route to the the Ponies' 45-41 win at Havre.

Daniel led the Ponies from the free throw line, shooting 76 percent on the season.

Wirtzberger, who also played varsity, traveled to Billings to play at the State Class A tournament, beginning today.
