Blood drive meets quota

Volunteers and staff nearly had more donors than they knew what to do with at Van Orsdel United Methodist Church Monday.

"It was busy all day long," said Red Cross blood drive chairwoman Karen Golden. "With what we had, the techs, only about three or four got to take a break; the other five didn't get off."

As a result, the drive broke its quota of 110 units of blood.

"One hundred and twenty-four signed up and we had 111 units, or pints," Golden said.

Two donors reached milestones recently and were awarded cakes Monday by the Bear Paw Chapter of the American Red Cross. Janice Erickson received a cake in recognition of the pint that put her over the 10-gallon mark and Mike Spencer got a cake for reaching the 5-gallon mark.

The next drawing is scheduled for May 1 at Van Orsdel.
