Hill County Commissioners will hold a public hearing at 2 p.m. March 23 to hear ways to disburse $83,346 from the Community Transportation Enhancement Program (CTEP) on worthy projects.
"To be eligible, the property has to be publicly owned," Commissioner Kathy Bessette said. "So much funds are allocated for the city and counties based on population."
Eligible projects include bicycle and pedestrian facilities such as sidewalks, bike racks and benches for public use. Landscaping and scenic beautification projects, historic preservation, rehabilitation, and the operation of historic transportation sites and the acquisition of scenic easement and scenic historic sites are also eligible.
CTEP monies were used to fence the buildings around Fort Assinniboine to protect the structures from cattle, purchasing the Heritage Center for the city and reducing the saline seep at the Hill County Fair Grounds.
The monies were able to purchase a system designed to help carry surface water off of the fair grounds to reduce the water table, which was the cause of the higher salinity at the fairgrounds.
CTEP requires a 13.42 percent local match and it must be publicly owned land.
