Havre Girl Scouts celebrate National Girl Scout week with activities to honor the organizations founding.
This is being done in conjunction with Girl Scouts of America nation-wide as they mark the 88th anniversary of their organization's founding, during Girl Scouts week. The celebration is from March 11-17.
The Girl Scouts of Big Sky Council will dedicate the first Girl Scout week of the new millennium to activities that reflect the strength and vitality of the contemporary Girl Scouts program, while honoring Girl Scouts heritage.
Locally, Girl Scouts delivered cookies and celebrated Girl Scout Sunday, March 12.
"On Girl Scout Sunday we ask local churches to insert a bulletin that tells about Girl Scouts week," said Susan Hunter, executive director/ceo for the Girl Scouts.
The Havre Brownies had a father-daughter date night Sunday, March 12, and in April the older girls from third grade up will have a sleepover and bowling event to celebrate Girl Scouts week.
"As we enter the 21st century, the timeless value of Girl Scouting ring true today as they did in 1912, courage, strength, service and leadership," Hunter said. "Now we as we celebrate the anniversary of the Girl Scouts' founding, we renew our commitment to helping today's girls become tomorrow's leaders."
