KALISPELL Berwyn Gerald "Buck" Davis, 80, died at his home in Kalispell on March 5, 2000. Services and burial with military honors have already taken place.
Davis was born Feb. 15, 1920 in Waucousta, Mich., to Elsie and Elias Davis. He attended school in Waucousta, graduating from the 10th grade.
Davis served in the U.S. Army during World War Two on the Aleutian Islands at Dutch Harbor and Adak. He was subsequently nominated to Officer Candidate School at For Sam Houston. He graduated as a second Lieutenant and was assigned as military policeman in Chicago.
On April, 21, 1945, while attending OCS, he married Mildred Berlinger of Big Sandy.
After completing active duty, Davis continued his military career in the National Guard and Army Reserve. He achieved the rank of lieutenant colonel and retired in 1977.
In 1947, Davis completed an apprenticeship with Consumer Electric in Michigan and went to work for the Rural Electrification Administration and the Bureau of Reclamation in Havre. He transferred to Fort Peck in 1956. He retired on May 16, 1983, after 37 years of federal service and moved to Kalispell with his wife.
Davis was an avid fast-pitch softball player in Havre and enjoyed hunting and fishing all of his life. He served as president of the Big Muddy Sportman's Club and was commander of the Fort Peck American Legion Post. He was active in VFW.
Davis was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Neil; twin sister, Polly Berg; sister, Wilma Bottom,and twin sisters, Rebecca and Ella, who died in infancy in 1913.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred, in Kalispell; daughters, Margaret Stiger of Bigfork and Terry Browning of Walla Walla, Wash.; son Jerry Davis of Eagle River, Alaska; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
