The Northern volleyball team is lighting up the court during the spring drills season.
The Skylights claimed the championship at the Western Montana College Spring Tournament, held at Dillon last weekend.
They competed against Western Montana College, MSU-Bozeman, two Carroll College teams, two teams from Butte, and an alumni team.
Northern, who barely finished in the top four to qualify for the championship bracket, upset NCAA Division I MSU 15-13, 7-15, 15-12 in the opening round.
The Skylights hit .214 as a team at the net, and the back row played fine defense in the win, said head coach Lisa Handley.
Adrienne Poplawski led the team with seven kills.
Northern defeated Frontier Conference rival Carroll, 7-15, 15-11, 15-12. The Skylights hit .287 in the match.
Poplawski led the team with 13 kills, while Jessica Gerenz and Lyndi Hostetter tallied nine kills apiece in the win.
The Skylights will play at Helena this weekend and will compete at Butte on April 15.
